Membership in KAAP

Becoming a member of the Kansas Association of Addiction Professionals (KAAP) means joining a community committed to advancing the field of addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery. As a member, you gain access to timely updates on state and national policy changes, professional development opportunities, and direct connections to key decision-makers in Kansas. KAAP advocates on your behalf at the Capitol, ensuring your voice is heard as laws and regulations evolve. Whether you're seeking support, continuing education, or a platform to influence the future of the profession, KAAP offers the resources and advocacy you need to grow, lead, and make a lasting impact.

Individual Membership

Definition: Open to any professional engaged in the prevention, intervention, treatment, or recovery support of substance use disorders, including those licensed or certified by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) or equivalent regulatory bodies. Eligible members include but are not limited to:

  • Licensed Addiction Counselors (LAC, LMAC, LCAC)
  • Licensed Social Workers (LBSW, LMSW, LSCSW)
  • Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC, LCPC)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT, LCMFT)
  • Licensed Psychologists (LMLP, LP)
  • Certified Peer Mentors, Case Managers, Prevention Specialists, and Program Administrators

Benefits:

  • Eligibility for committee and leadership roles
  • Discounts on professional development, training, and CE opportunities
  • Access to statewide advocacy and workforce initiatives
  • Networking opportunities with peers and leaders in the Kansas behavioral health field
  • Non-voting membership status
  • Purpose: This category recognizes the broad behavioral health workforce now engaged in addictions practice and aims to unify professionals across licensure types under the shared goal of improving prevention, treatment, and recovery outcomes in Kansas.

Educator Membership

Definition: Open to professionals whose primary role is in education, training, or research related to addiction, behavioral health, or recovery support. Eligible individuals include college or university faculty, clinical trainers, and research professionals contributing to workforce development in the addiction field.

Benefits:

  • Discounted dues which may be waived if member presents at KAAP events or chairs a committee
  • Opportunities to present research or educational content at KAAP events
  • Networking and collaboration with training programs and workforce initiatives
  • Recognition as an academic or research affiliate of KAAP
  • Non-voting membership status

Student Membership

Definition: Open to individuals currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or training program in behavioral health, addiction studies, prevention, social work, counseling, psychology, or related fields.

Benefits:

  • Reduced membership dues which may be waived for involvement in KAAP committees, conferences, and events
  • Access to mentorship, internship, and networking opportunities
  • Discounted or free access to KAAP training and conferences
  • Eligibility for student awards and scholarships
  • Non-voting membership status

Honorary Membership 

Definition: Granted by the KAAP Board of Directors to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, advocacy, or contributions to the fields of addiction prevention, treatment, recovery, or policy.

Benefits:

  • Discounted membership which may be waived at the discretion of the Board
  • Public recognition at KAAP events and on the website
  • Invitation to serve as an advisor or mentor
Non-voting membership status

Professional Organization Membership

Definition: Open to any organization, agency, or program engaged in addiction prevention, evaluation, treatment, or recovery services. Organization-wide access to training discounts and workforce development initiatives

Benefits:

  • Eligibility for committee and leadership roles
  • Recognition on KAAP’s website and marketing materials
  • Eligibility to nominate one representative with voting privileges
Opportunities for organizational collaboration and advocacy engagement

Business Partnership Membership

Definition: Open to any business, corporation, or vendor that supports KAAP’s mission and provides products or services that benefit addiction and behavioral health providers. Examples include software vendors, insurance companies, continuing education providers, health systems, or community businesses aligned with behavioral health.

Benefits:

  • Recognition as a KAAP Business Partner in communications and online platforms
  • Sponsorship and exhibit opportunities at conferences and events
  • Networking and visibility among Kansas addiction professionals
